A Note to Parents from Master Nick Koclanis

Dear Parents:

You have a right to be proud!

Giving your child Tae Kwon Do training shows foresight as well as the appreciation of a fine art.

Tae Kwon Do is a language understood by people of all nations. It is one of the most basic mediums of expression. Improved coordination, a broadening of interests, a discovery of the importance of self-discipline, and a world of pleasure are only a few of the rewards students receive.

Parents must play an important role in guiding their children's Tae Kwon Do training. One question asked by almost all parents is, "How long should my child practice?" Later it will be important that your child practice a specified amount. For now, the length of time is not so important, as long as they practice their "Form" each day.

Regularity in practice is important!  Let you child select a regular time for practice to begin. With your help, good practicing habits will be easily established. Your child's Instructor can give you valuable suggestions. As parents, you should have the responsibility of showing an interest in your child's progress. Patience, sincere praise, a show of enthusiasm as your child learns new material, and your occasional participation in Tae Kwon Do sessions at home will be very beneficial.

As Director, it is my pleasure to offer an outstanding course of instruction, prepared for you by the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.

We offer our best wishes to you and your child in your new adventure. It
is certain to be exciting and richly rewarding.

The Benefits of Martial Arts Training

The emphasis of Mountain View Karate is discipline in your child through the two fundamental Martial Arts training principles of attention and respect.  Both attention (standing perfectly upright and still while listening to the instructor and respect (bowing to all instructors) are developed in a child’s mental focus and physiology.

We build confidence and character by providing the child with control over his/her  body and an ability to stand up to negative peer pressure and other intimidating situations.

The movements involved in our system develop coordination and increase strength and flexibility, which are very important during growth years.  We train our students to music, which develops concentration and timing.

The awarding of the higher levels of belts gives your child a sense of achievement and accomplishment.  The importance of this is that it develops the principle of goal setting.  We work on your child’s immediate, short-term, and long-term goals, which your child will be able to apply to other areas in life and carry with him/her into the future.

Mountain View Karate also involves free-style competition (sport karate).  This helps develop a sense of sportsmanship in a controlled and competitive situation.

The foundation of Mountain View Karate is self-defense value.  We are very careful to teach children that Martial Arts is not to be used outside the karate school in any manner other than in true self defense.  The result is a self-confident child, who does not need to bully or show-off to other children.

Most important, Mountain View Karate is good, clean FUN!  Your  Child  will meet many new friends and burn off extra energy.
